Strathcona in Bloom is seeking a volunteer to be our Public Bed Coordinator.

As Coordinator, you oversee the planting and maintenance of over 20 flower beds, pots etc. within Sherwood Park. You have team of volunteers who look after these beds — each bed/pot has between 1 and 4 volunteers.

With the assistance of our Treasurer, you assign a budget to each Bed Captain that authorizes them to purchase plants for their beds. You provide each Bed Captain a purchase order (in a Word document) that is accepted by our cooperating greenhouses. You work with these Captains throughout the summer — helping them answering questions that may arise. In late September, you advise the Bed Captains the procedure for cleaning up the beds for the winter.

You coordinate a Bed Captains meeting in the very early spring/late winter at which you can review all procedures for them and answer questions that they have.

You are a member of the Board of SIB — you participate in about 8 meetings each year to guide, direct the programs of SIB and bring forward issues, questions and recommendations regarding your program.

The busiest time for you will be the March through May period as the summer program is ramped up and will take a 4-6 hours each week. Summer will required less time and the season from October through March is quiet — just the monthly Board meetings.

This is a critical position for SIB; we look forward to you joining us.
