Glen Allan Spotlight

As we continue our journey through the 2025 Strathcona in Bloom recognized yards, we find ourselves in the Glen Allan subdivision. While every recognized yard shares a common thread of pride, this particular home stands out for its masterful use of island beds and structural contrast.

What makes this garden isn’t just the blooms — it’s the way the greenery defines the space.

The Golden Sunburst: The center of the front lawn is anchored by a lush, circular stone-walled bed. It features a spectacular display of tall, yellow coneflowers (Rudbeckia) that act as a beacon of color against the crisp blue Alberta sky.

Textural Layering: Below the towering yellow blooms, the gardener has woven in delicate purple bellflowers and deep green foliage, creating a tiered effect that keeps the eye moving from the ground up to the blossoms.

Stonework & Structure: The use of stacked, natural-looking stone for the garden perimeter provides a clean, permanent border that beautifully frames the wilder, more organic growth of the perennial plants.

A Hidden Hydrangea Oasis: Nestled closer to the home, a massive white hydrangea provides a cool, creamy backdrop, softening the transition between the vibrant front garden and the classic architecture of the house.

This is a beautiful reminder that a well-tended yard is a gift to both the neighbors and the environment.
