Join the Everything Garden Seed Exchange in Strathcona

The Strathcona County Library’s Everything Garden Exchange is coming on Saturday, February 28th between 10AM-1:30PM in Meeting Room 2 at the Community Centre (401 Festival Lane).

Strathcona in Bloom will have a table there to share information about our programs and to hopefully identify a few new volunteers for the coming season.

You can participate in the seed/garden tool swap happening in the same room and the following drop-in presentations:

Create Great Compost with Worms – 10:00-10:45AM
Discover how to start your own worm farm from scratch, producing nutrient-rich vermicompost to give your garden an all-natural boost.

Gardening for Birds – 11:00AM-12:00PM
Avid birder and photographer Melissa Penney will teach you how backyard garden design and plant selection can attract more pollinators and birds. Her book A Playground for Birds will be available for purchase after the program.

Science of Fruit Trees – 12:15PM-1:15PM
It’s true! You can grow figs, peaches, Asian pears and more on the prairies. Learn the science behind fruit trees including anatomy, reproduction, water and nutrient needs, and local climate tips in this intro to applied fruit tree biology…

New Perennials 2026 – 2:00-3:00PM
Discover the newest perennial plants – from easy-to-grow favourites to show-stopper garden standouts.

Start Seeds in the Snow – 3:00-4:00PM
Get a jump start on your garden this year – the easy way – outdoors with milk jugs. Soilless medium and seeds will be provided. Bring your 4-litre milk container.

Grafting Fruit Trees 101 – 3:15PM-4:15PM
Learn about grafting and growing young fruit trees in our climate. We’ll cover the basics of getting started with grafting including preparing and sourcing materials, timing, grafting techniques, and aftercare.
