Happy January from Strathcona in Bloom!

As we hibernate this winter- we have been reflecting on all the amazing work that went into another successful year. Strathcona in Bloom would like to extend our gratitude to the many volunteers who take time in their busy lives to dedicate to improving our community, from beautification efforts with our Community Bed program, to fostering connection through our Front Yard and Outdoor Spaces recognition programs.

2025 Highlights

Front Yard Recognition:

— 808 nominations total

— Our expansion to Ardrossan has opened up even more opportunities to connect with our community!

— Introduction of the Virtual Nomination Map helped make it easier to nominate your neighbour on the go and has improved tracking

Outdoor Spaces Recognition:

— 156 nominations total

— 39 in rural Strathcona County.

It is always wonderful to see engagement with our rural businesses across the County!

Community Flower Beds & Rural Halls:

— Over 35 public locations, including County-run facilities, rural halls, and various garden beds throughout Strathcona County.

— The efforts of our volunteers helped to make Strathcona County shine once again this past garden season. We can’t wait to see what will bloom in 2026!

2026 Communities in Bloom Theme: Therapeutic Gardening

“More than ever, we recognize the restorative power of green spaces — gardens that nurture the mind, body, and spirit. Whether through community gardens, sensory landscapes, or the simple joy of tending plants, therapeutic gardening fosters connection, resilience, and well-being.”

Each year, the Communities in Bloom National organization selects a guiding theme to consider as we plan our gardens and programs for the coming season. Throughout 2026 Strathcona in Bloom will reflect on how the work we do as an organization contributes to individual and community wellbeing.
